AWESOME! MUST READ

Mr. Orange is such a talented writer and goes to great length to ensure that the reader feels he is living with the charterers in this work. I consider this book a MUST READ for anyone who enjoys a good western novel with attention to historical facts as well as a wonderful piece of fiction.
I consider Mr. Orange to be an incredible author, and the next Elmer Kelton.

Compelling, insightful, fun

This book provides a view of early settlement after the war between the states and the struggle to settle into adulthood. It provides a love story of two people who met as
children and waited to become adults to reunite after the war. It takes you into the minds of the open prairie filled with aggressive indians still at war with the white man while struggling to maintain their independence in a world where white men are encroaching on their lives.
This book kept my attention easily. I look forward to the next written publication.

Well research Fiction is Harder to Write than Non-Fiction.

I was fortunate enough to read a draft, and I could not put it down. It was an outstanding fiction story. But what makes fiction good is great research. As a military historian, with a secondary specialty in 19th Century US Army, Jerry Orange did his research, which makes the book more enjoyeable and more believable. The attention to details are there without lossing the reader. Good work Jerry, and I hope to see another one soon (I know, I have written 4 non-fiction military reform books).
