Excellent, no actually brilliant and I do not say it lightly

In the last few days I have been following some of the discussions about m/m genre on the Internet and this book is the book which I would have pointed to as an example of how very lovely and not stereotypical and NOT porn at all this genre could be. Hopefully more and more authors will buy a clue and start writing books like this one.
Yes, in a way it is a reimagining of Casablanca, NO, it is not a plagiarism of Casablanca and neither it is Casablanca based fanfiction. I would say that this book pays a homage to Casablanca for sure, but it tells its own story. And boy what a LOVELY story it is. The lead characters have their lifes and thins to do in life and duties and higher calling, I mean it is Second World war and I would not have expected anything less from two decent people. It is just so so good to read a book which does not build characters' lives around their gayness and even their building romance is not, is not the focus of what they are doing, even if it is central enough to the plot.
Sex is there, restrained, but incredibly passionate, but I would challenge anybody who would say that this book was written for the purpose to get the characters in bed and boy I have read the books like that. This one is NOT one of those books. NO, nothing wrong with porn, I am just not the reader who looks for porn and just so so happy that this book suits my tastes so so well.
Thank you Ms.Cook for this treat! I am now going to order couple of your other books and hope that I will be just as pleased with them as I am pleased with this one.
This one easily goes on my top ten list of the romances that I had ever read. Ten stars, seriously.
I mean, of course I am not qualified to judge the technical aspect of your writing, but the settings are so real, the characters are so so alive that I feel that you are superb writer :)

So good I read it in one sitting! This story and it's characters unfold slowly and almost begrudgingly giving up their secrets. A beautifully crafted work of art.

Not sure what I feel about this book, sadly I am on the fence with this one..

Okay so I want to start of this review by saying while I really like the premise of this story and I am huge fan of historical books, this book I honestly am unsure of how I feel about it at this point..
I had the hardest time getting into this story because there were so many parts that really just dragged for me. While there was some very good parts to this story too it just seemed like there were honestly more parts that were hard for me to get into. Now I really liked Jake and Renard's characters and I did like them together too very much! With this book you will get steam and action too!
Really liked the premise of this story and the characters but I am on the fence on what I feel about the story overall because of the parts that did drag a little for me overweighing that parts I loved..
