Irish Family Story

This is about a family of immigrants making their way to the US. While this story is Jerry's, a US born citizen, the other two main characters are his grandfather, Fitz, who immigrated from Ireland back in the 20's along with Fitz's young son Charlie - who eventually fathers Jerry. The two are running away from Fitz's enraged wife. Luckily, Fitz gets hired aboard a ship leaving for the US immediately. Charlie hides until the ship is underway. The stories of Fitz, Charlie, and Jerry, are intermingled throughout the book. The bar O'Rourke's could be considered a fourth character. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about the Irish and the trials and tribulations of finding one's way in a new country in a time of upheaval.

An Interesting Read

This short novel chronicles three generations of the Irish O'Dwyer family. It is an interesting story of how this family journeyed from Ireland to America and the resultant trials and tribulations they endured. O'Rourke's, an Irish Pub, serves as the setting where the three generations meet each other for the first time. The story is filled with creative scenes and imagination. The end provides the reader with an uncommon twist. This is an easy read for a lazy afternoon, curling up with a book.
