The family made a comfortable life cattle ranching, but the subsequent discovery of oil on the ranch by Lee’s great-grand daughter sealed the fate of an empire that had lasted more than 130 years.

Wonderful Glimpse Into Texas Past

I found this book to be a wonderfully written saga of a Texas family. I really enjoyed the details of the lives and scenes of the times depicted. Having grown up in San Antonio and now transplanted to California, I was able to recall and relate to so much of the culture the author related. He seems to have captured the historical details through meticulous research. I highly recommend this first book by this author and look forward to the next installment.

I thoroughly enjoyed this walk back through time. It was a wonderful learning experience and an easy comfortable read. As a ranch owner in the Texas Hill Country, it gave me a sense of heritage and awareness of the life experiences of previous families. The author has given us Texas history, suspense, romance and intrigue. I am anxiously awaiting the continuation of the Caldwell family saga.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this historical book though it is embellished with some fiction where facts are not available.. I live nearby and have worked in the south Texas area. I know the author and he is an outstanding geologist and person. If you like early history, you will enjoy this book.
